I grew up in Denver, Colorado, but knew from a young age that I wanted to be a marine biologist. Even though I didn’t see the ocean until I was 16 when I attended an undergraduate pre-collegiate program at University of California San Diego, it always had this presence in my life, this distant force drawing me towards it. This magnetism attracted me to an undergraduate Biology degree with a Marine Emphasis at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. While taking the required Algae course, I realized I wanted to pursue a career in phycological research. I completed my MS and PhD with Dr. Alison Sherwood in Algal Biodiversity Lab the at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa in Honolulu, Hawai‘i. I am currently a postdoctoral research intern in Dr. Filipe Alberto’s lab at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee and loving postgraduate life.
